Perez lifts Detroit over White Sox in extras

Baseball Betting Lines

09/06/2007 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Timo Perez's run-scoring single in the 11th inning gave the Detroit Tigers a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park.

Heath Phillips started the 11th for Chicago and quickly recorded two outs. Brandon Inge then doubled to the gap in left-center before Carlos Guillen was intentionally walked. Perez then stepped up to the plate and won it for Detroit with a single to right.

Ivan Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with two doubles for the Tigers, who won for only the third time in their last eight games.

Detroit still trails Cleveland by seven games in the American League Central. The Indians defeated the Minnesota Twins earlier on Wednesday.

The victory went to Bobby Seay (2-0), who kept Chicago off the board in the top of the 11th.

Detroit starter Kenny Rogers, who was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game, went five innings and gave up one run on two hits while striking out six and walking two. The 42-year-old lefty had been on the shelf since July 26th with left elbow inflammation.

Danny Richar had two hits including a home run for the White Sox, who were looking to win their third straight contest.

Gavin Floyd made the start for Chicago and pitched six strong innings, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts and a pair of walks. The loss went to Phillips (0-1) in his major league debut.

After two scoreless frames, Richar led off the third with a home run to give the visitors the lead.

Mike Hessman's opposite field home run to right to open the home half of the fifth tied the game at 1-1.

The score remained tied the remainder of the contest until Perez's heroics in extra innings.

Game Notes

Rodriguez's two-base hit in the eighth inning was his 500th career double...Detroit is 8-8 this season in extra inning games this season...The Tigers stranded 16 runners on base...Chicago ended with just four hits.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
