Del Rio: Leftwich is our guy

Football Betting Lines

02/23/2007 - Indianapolis, IN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jacksonville head coach Jack Del Rio ended any speculation about who would be the Jaguars' starting quarterback on Thursday, naming Byron Leftwich as the team's starting signal caller for the 2007 season.

Leftwich had started the first six games of last season before a left ankle injury brought his season to an end. The 26-year-old Leftwich, who completed 108-of-183 passes for 1,159 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions in his six starts, was inactive for five weeks before eventually undergoing surgery to repair the injury.

David Garrard took over for Leftwich and threw for 876 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions as Jacksonville finished short of the playoffs with a record of 8-8. There were rumors that the organization would go with Garrard instead of Leftwich before Del Rio's announcement on Thursday.

Del Rio also announced that both Garrard and third-string quarterback Quinn Gray would return.
