Busch inks five-year contract extension with Penske

04/23/2010 - Talladega, AL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Kurt Busch confirmed on Friday that he has signed a contract extension with Penske Racing to drive for the organization through the 2015 season.

On Wednesday, Penske announced that Busch will move from the No.2 Dodge to the No.22 car in 2011, with new sponsorship from Shell/Pennzoil. Shell Oil Company will end its sponsorship with Richard Childress Racing and driver Kevin Harvick and support Busch's efforts with Penske next year.

Busch said he looked at other teams and tried to find scenarios that would fit him before finalizing his new contract with team owner Roger Penske.

"I knew that I was committed through 2010, and 2011's option was picked up by Roger," he said. "So what that meant was a perfect opportunity to talk about what the future could bring; not just 2011, but 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and beyond.

"We started with just a light-hearted sit down at a dinner one night, almost like one of those napkin sketches of, 'Hey, this is what I'd like to see, and this is what might happen.' Then this (Shell/Pennzoil) opportunity just came up a few weeks ago, and it changed the whole landscape that we ended up with."

Busch also said he looks forward to spending the rest of his career with Penske.

"I definitely look to have my career end here at Penske Racing; hopefully that's 10-15 years down the road," he said. "Being only 31 years old, there's still so much potential, blue sky, and so much fun that we can have together."

Busch has driven the No.2 car, with Miller Lite as his sponsor, since he joined Penske at the start of the 2006 season. Brad Keselowski will take over driving duties of that car next year. Prior to Penske, Busch drove for Roush Fenway Racing.
